A private gathering celebrating the
life of "Dee" Young, 78, was held Monday, March 22, 1999. Mrs. Young
was a homemaker. With hospice care, she died on St. Patrick's Day at the home
of one of her daughters. In life, Mrs. Young loved her storybook Salmon Creek
home. Until her husband's passing, she also delighted in reading, trailering,
entertaining, politics, organizing her photo albums, contributing to the Manhattan
Beach Historical Society, and yearly vacations in Maui. Bragging about her
notorious daughters, the "Slob Sisters," Mrs. Young often stopped
perfect strangers a the grocery store to plug her infamous offspring's books.
As a gifted artist, Dee Young enjoyed
oil painting, china painting, and teaching ceramics. For many years, she and
her husband, Bill, owned and operated "Young's Studio," conducting
weekly "classes" remembered more for the fun and friendship they
provided than for the ceramics they produced. Preceded in death by her beloved husband,
William, of 53 years, survivors include two daughters, Pam Young and Peggy
Jones, both of Vancouver; six grandchildren, Michael Brace, Peggy Carlson,
Joanna Werre, Christopher, Jeffrey and Allyson Jones; and seven great-grandchildren
(including to soon to be born). According to their wishes, Mrs. Young's ashes
will be scattered over the Pacific (joining her husband's) by their grandson,
Captain Christopher Jones (ASAF - Deployed). Memorial contributions may be made to
